A superb male variety producing numerous thick, succulent, uniform spears once established and for many years after.
For indoor sowing:
When - March to April
Where - In trays of seed compost.
How - Sow thinly,cover with 1.5cm (half inch) of fine compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover tray with glass. Polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx 20-25C (68F-77F). Seedlings appear 21-35 days.
Care - Remove cover when seedlings appear. Grow on at approx. 15C (60F)
When large enough transplant singly to 7.5cm (3in) pots. Stand outside for a few days late May. (avoid frosts) Transplant in June to July to final position. Dig trench 30cm (12in) wide, 20cm (8in) deep with central ridge. 7.5cm (3in) high. Place crowns on ridge 45cm (18in) apart. Spead out roots on side of ridge. Cover roots with 7.5cm (3in) fine soil. As crowns develop draw in more soil, filling trench and forming ridge. Keep moist and weed free.
Harvest Year 1 - do not cut any shoots.
Harvest Year 2 - cut one shoot per plant
Harvest Year 3 - cut all shoots for a maximum of five weeks.
Harvest Year 4 - and many more years - harvest fully from May to June.
