A flatter-rooted beet growing mostly above the soil surface, smooth skinned, with deep red, tender and flavoursome flesh. Excellent and traditionally sown for an earlier crop in frames, but is ideal for sowing in succesion outdoors throughout the season. Stores well for use during winter.
Sowing Instructions:Sow March in frames, April-July outdoors. Sow thinly, 1cm (1/2in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart.
Growing Instructions: Thin seedlings to 3-5cm (1-2in) apart when large enough to handle. Harvest when roots reach about 4cm (3/4in) in diameter or more when they are delicious raw. Beet can be stored by lifting the roots from later sowings, twist off the tops and store in boxes of slightly damp sand in a frost-free conditions.
Serving Suggestion:Grate or slice young roots raw for salads.
