T&M, as yet, have not been able to identify this Sweet William-like plant, but it is quite delightful with its rich and unusual, deep glowing amethyst flowers borne on red-tinged stems. Although perennial, from an early sowing it will easily flower in its first summer.
Sowing - Sow in late spring/early summer outdoors in a well prepared seed bed. Sow the seeds very thinly 6mm (¼in) in drills 30cm ( 12in) apart, keep the soil damp until germination takes place.
Growing - Thin out the seedlings to 15cm (6in) when large enough to handle. Transplant 30cm (12in) apart into flowering site in the autumn for flowering the following year.
Aftercare - They will grow in most soils and grow equally well in full sun or part shade.
Flowering Period -
Spring
Plant Type - Hardy Herbaceous Perennial
